Edición del largo capítulo de Rafael Altamira sobre fuentes y evolución general del Derecho español, con énfasis en las instituciones jurídico-privadas,publicado, en lengua inglesa, en el volumen misceláneo A General Survey of Events, Sources, Persons, and Movements in Continental Legal, 1912. El estudio preliminar analiza las circunstancias de la obra, así como las relaciones entre el autor español y el responsable científico de la misma, Prof. John H. Wigmore (Northwestern University). Se recupera además la correspondencia cruzada entre ambos a propósito de esa publicación.
