Isabel de Portugal asumió el gobierno de los reinos hispánicos en varias ocasiones entre 1528 y 1538 por las ausencias de Carlos V. La Corte se fue desplazando de un lugar a otro en torno al área que forman las ciudades de Valladolid, Madrid y Toledo. La emperatriz buscó en todo momento el mejor emplazamiento para proteger la salud de sus hijos, sin alejarse de los habituales centros de poder. Durante la Gran Regencia (1529-1533) Isabel se asentó en siete lugares, siendo Madrid la sede preferente. Desde allí, la Corte se hizo más itinerante que nunca en 1533 al adentrarse por los caminos de Castilla y Aragón con destino a Barcelona, donde se produjo el reencuentro de Isabel y Carlos. Dos años más tarde, Madrid primero, y Valladolid después, se convirtieron en sedes más estables de los últimos gobiernos de la emperatriz. Sus cartas y los testimonios de sus contemporáneos nos acercan a las circunstancias y a las características de los movimientos de la Corte de Isabel.

 

Isabella of Portugal took the Government of the Hispanic kingdoms at various times between 1528 and 1538 by the absences of Charles V.
