El acomodo razonable es una figura jurídica nacida en Estados Unidos y que posteriormente, al ser importada por Canadá, se ha convertido en una expresión de uso común tanto en la esfera pública canadiense como en foros internacionales que debaten sobre las necesidades religiosas de los grupos minoritarios. Producto de esta popularidad se ha propuesto su adopción en Europa como forma de gestionar la creciente diversidad del continente. Para ello es necesario conocer este instrumento así como sus ventajas y limitaciones. En este artículo se va a analizar la diferente evolución que la obligación de acomodar ha tenido en Estados Unidos y en Canadá, atendiendo tanto al contexto jurídico como a la distinta construcción jurisprudencial que ha experimentado en cada país. 

Reasonable accommodation is a legal instrument that was created in the USA and after being adopted by the Supreme Court of Canada, it has become a usual concept both in the Canadian public sphere and wherever debates about the needs of religious minorities are at issue. Due to this popularity, it has been proposed to be adopted by European institutions as a way to manage the growing diversity in the continent. In order to value this instrument, as well as its benefits and limitations, this article aims to analyze the different development the duty to accommodate has experienced in USA and Canada, through the examination of the legal context and two Supreme Court rulings of each country.
