La Cruz Roja y la Alianza de Civilizaciones son dos relevantes organizaciones promotoras de la paz. La primera, con una larga vida de siglo y medio, inicialmente concebida para atender a los heridos y enfermos de las guerras, poco a poco ha ido extendiendo sus actividades y objetivos a otros ámbitos de solidaridad, convirtiéndose en una institución sólida con funciones preventivas y reparadoras de los conflictos existentes en el mundo. La segunda, concebida como un instrumento para tender un puente entre Occidente y el mundo musulmán, apenas tiene una corta existencia de casi un decenio, aunque amparada por Naciones Unidas ha conseguido en poco tiempo la adhesión de casi todos los Estados del planeta y organismos internacionales. Objetivo de este artículo es indagar las semejanzas y diferencias de ambas organizaciones, precisando las características singulares de cada una y si finalmente es más lo que las une que lo que las separa. 

The Red Cross and the Alliance of Civilizations are two important organizations that promote peace. The first, which is one and a half centuries old, was initially conceived to treat the wounded and sick of war, and it has slowly extended its activities and objectives to other areas of solidarity, becoming a strong institution with preventive and healing functions in conflicts around the world. The second was conceived as a tool to bridge the West and the Muslim world, it has only been around for almost a decade. Although it is supported by the United Nations, in a short time it has achieved the accession of almost every State in the world and international organizations. The objective of this paper is to investigate the similarities and differences of both organizations, specifying the unique characteristics of each, and finally deciding if there is more that unites them than separates them.
