Los esposos Curie –Pierre Curie y Marie Salomea Sklodowska Curie– interaccionaron, en su actividad profesional, con la propiedad intelectual e industrial durante los años finales del siglo XIX y los comienzos del siglo XX. Los Curie abordaron la investigación de los rayos uránicos, lo cual les llevó a descubrir los elementos polonio (Po) y radio (Ra), al estudio de los radioelementos y a la descripción del fenómeno de la radiactividad. En 1903, los esposos compartieron el Premio Nobel de Física con Henry Becquerel. En 1911, Marie Curie fue galardonada con el Premio Nobel de Química. Esta publicación valora la relación de los Curie con la propiedad industrial, en relación con las patentes de los aparatos diseñados por Pierre Curie y con la decisión posterior de no patentar el método de purificación del radio. Marie Curie también defendió los derechos de autor de sus textos y el papel del científico en la sociedad.

The spouses Curie, Pierre Curie and Marie Salomea Sklodowska Curie, in their profesional activity, interacted with intellectual property, during the fi nal years of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The Curies addressed the investigation of uranium rays, which led them to discover the elements polonium (Po) and radium (Ra), the study of the radioelements and the description of the phenomenon of radioactivity. In 1903, the spouses shared the Nobel Prize in physics with Henry Becquerel. In 1911, Marie Curie was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry. This publication evaluates the relationship between the Curies and industrial property, regarding the patenting of the devices designed by Pierre Curie and the subsequent decision not to patent the method of purifi cation of the radium (Ra). Marie Curie also defended the copyright of her texts and the role of scientists in society.
